Ituani team

We build our TEAM from people from community
We have built our Team from people within the community. Ituani is a private, 100% Ni-Van, community-based organization dedicated to empowering the remote and rural populations of Vanuatu through the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) services and training, as well as promoting the use of renewable energy to combat the impacts of climate change. We have assembled our small team from local communities with the spirit to prove our capabilities to others and demonstrate that strong commitment can empower individuals—from those with limited skills in the world of ICT to those with strong capabilities and abundant opportunities in the developing world.
Our team stands out as a model.
Who we are
Ituani ICT Community Centre was initiated in 2007 following a study on Malo Island, which revealed that 80% of the Malo population traveled daily to Luganville, Santo, to access ICT services. These services were primarily secretarial, such as typing, photocopying, printing, scanning, laminating, binding, as well as internet access for email, research, and money transfer.
Based on these findings, the Ituani ICT Centre began offering these essential ICT services, which were unavailable in our rural areas. In 2015, the dream was finally realized, and we began providing all the aforementioned services free of charge to the community, along with basic computer training—a service we continue to offer today.
In 2015, the Government of Vanuatu, through TRR, contributed to the establishment of the Centre on Malo. In 2017, we expanded our reach to North East Malekula, and in 2021, we extended our services to Sola Vanualava in Torba Province. As we work towards our vision of bringing ICT to remote and rural areas, we are now focused on establishing a presence in the remaining three provinces: Penama, Shefa, and Tafea.
In 2018, the Ituani ICT Centres were rebranded as the Ituani Vocational Skills Centre (IVSC), which expanded its ICT for Education and Development program. In 2019, IVSC became the first RTC in Vanuatu to deliver computer courses to the rural population (comprising 70% of the country), and to offer recognized certification that opens doors for students to further their studies in ICT or apply their new skills in business or employment opportunities.
Our organization is leading a profound transformation in Vanuatu. We are committed to standing firm in our actions, which we believe will deliver lasting results and positive change for our nation.
Where we work
To achieve its mission of bringing ICT services to the doorsteps of Vanuatu’s rural and remote communities, Ituani has plans to set up in each province of Vanuatu. So far, Ituani has established a presence in Sanma Province, Malampa Province, and Torba Province

Given that education levels in Vanuatu's rural and remote areas are often lower compared to urban schools, Ituani has introduced the Kids' Club program. This program encourages children to use Math and Language apps to enhance their Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills, and it has proven successful. In addition, Ituani offers computer learning activities for individuals across different age groups, designing the activities to match their specific age and educational background.

ICT for education and development
In today’s world, ICT education is essential for preparing individuals to thrive in an increasingly digital society. It equips students with the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate the complexities of modern technology, enabling them to succeed in various fields, from business and healthcare to education and entertainment. ICT education fosters critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation, empowering individuals to adapt to rapid technological changes. As technology continues to shape the global economy, providing access to quality ICT education ensures that people are not only consumers of technology but also creators, contributing to the development of solutions that drive progress and improve lives worldwide.
Ituani Management Committee

In 2018, one arm of the Ituani Group, the ICT for Education and Development program, was developed and rebranded as Ituani Vocational Skills Centre (IVSC) following the appointment of its Management Committee members. Its Quality Management System was also developed and approved. In 2019, IVSC was registered with the Vanuatu Qualification Authority (VQA) as the first Rural Training Centre (RTC) authorized to deliver accredited computer courses, providing people with the opportunity to pursue further education or careers in the field of ICT.

Cyber security awareness

The use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Vanuatu has been growing rapidly over the past several years, with more individuals and communities gaining access to the internet and digital technologies. However, despite this growth, a large portion of users, especially in rural areas, have not yet learned how to navigate the internet safely or protect themselves from online risks. With increasing access to online platforms, the risk of cyber threats such as online scams, privacy breaches, and exposure to harmful content also grows. This lack of digital literacy and understanding of online safety can leave individuals vulnerable to various online dangers. Recognizing the need for proper education on internet safety, Ituani Vocational Skills Centre has stepped in as a pioneer in Vanuatu, focusing its outreach programs on equipping rural communities with the knowledge and skills needed to safely use the internet. As the first organization dedicated to addressing this crucial issue, Ituani is making significant strides in raising awareness and providing essential training on how to protect personal information, avoid online scams, and engage in responsible digital behavior. Ituani’s educational programs include practical workshops and awareness campaigns that teach individuals the importance of online privacy, secure browsing practices, and how to identify and avoid common cyber threats. The center also emphasizes the importance of understanding the ethical use of the internet, promoting responsible social media use, and teaching individuals how to create strong, secure passwords to protect their online accounts. These programs are designed not only to improve digital literacy but also to build confidence in users, empowering them to make safer, more informed decisions while using the internet. By focusing on internet safety, Ituani plays a critical role in bridging the digital divide in Vanuatu, ensuring that as communities gain access to technology, they also gain the necessary skills to use it responsibly. The center’s outreach efforts are particularly important in rural areas, where internet usage may be a relatively new phenomenon, and where individuals may be more vulnerable to online risks due to a lack of exposure to digital safety education. In this way, Ituani is not just helping individuals connect to the digital world but also ensuring they can do so in a secure and informed manner, ultimately fostering a safer and more digitally resilient society in Vanuatu. Through its initiatives, Ituani is shaping a future where communities can safely harness the full potential of the internet, access valuable information, and engage in the global digital economy without compromising their security or well-being.
ict waste management awareness

E-waste management is vital for protecting the environment and public health, as improper disposal of electronic waste can release toxic substances like mercury, lead, and cadmium into the ecosystem. These pollutants can contaminate soil and water, posing serious health risks. Responsible e-waste management through recycling and proper disposal not only reduces environmental harm but also recovers valuable materials, conserves resources, and supports sustainable practices. The Ituani Vocational Skills Centre plays a crucial role in educating the community about the importance of e-waste management. Through training programs and awareness campaigns, the center empowers individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to handle electronic waste responsibly. It provides practical solutions for recycling, repairing, and reusing e-waste, thus fostering a culture of sustainability. By equipping people with the necessary skills, Ituani Vocational Skills Centre is helping to reduce the negative impacts of e-waste and contributing to a cleaner, safer environment.
cultural and traditional events archives

Vanuatu's rich cultural and traditional values, which have been passed down through generations, are unfortunately starting to fade as each new generation becomes increasingly influenced by modernization and global trends. With the rapid adoption of technology and changes in lifestyle, traditional practices, languages, and customs are often overlooked or forgotten, particularly among younger people who are more engaged with the digital world. However, there are still elders in many communities who hold a deep understanding of Vanuatu's cultural heritage, including traditional knowledge, rituals, crafts, and storytelling, and who are committed to preserving these practices for future generations. Recognizing the importance of preserving this invaluable cultural heritage, Ituani Vocational Skills Centre has taken proactive steps to document and protect the traditional knowledge of the past. The center has developed a comprehensive historical archive that captures the essence of Vanuatu's cultural and traditional practices. This archive includes a wide range of materials, from oral histories and traditional songs to details about rituals, ceremonies, crafts, and indigenous languages. By recording these aspects of Vanuatu’s heritage, Ituani ensures that they are not lost to time and that future generations will have access to a rich resource that connects them to their cultural roots.
promoting renewable energy in rural communities

Outreaching ICT in the communities is totaly dependent on renewable energy which is the main electricity source. Therefore, one of the objective of the Ituani is to promote the use of renewable energy and emphasizes on its importance to the environment that can contribute to the impact of the climate change which is affected our earthly nature today. Ituani involves renewable energy awareness that goes in parallel with its ICT outreaching awareness program.
