Basic Computer workshop for Mati school teachers on East Malo
Ituani Centre has conducted a 3-day basic computer workshop for teachers at Mati School on east Malo.
School principal Mr. Christoph, is the main organizer for the workshop and he is really happy that Ituani responded positively to his request. He said this a sign of trust and it establishes the base for future ICT programs to improve the teachers’ computing skills.
Mr. Peter Lele, the Area Secretary for east Malo attended the opening of the workshop and expressed his acknowledgment on this arrangement between Ituani and Mati school. He said ICT is one of the main tools used today yet many teachers, civil servants and private agents doing lot of good work on the island lacked knowledge and skills in this area.
He said the workshop is the first of its kind in the area and teachers there will soon use the government’s Open VEMIS database system to enrol students directly from their respective locations.
Ituani was established purposely to provide ICT services to the doorsteps of the people. The institution was established on Malo in 2015 and as the need and requests to provide services rose, it also has a presence on Malekula and Banks. Nevertheless, the Malo centre is yet to be rebuilt after it was destroyed by Tropical Cyclone Harold.
Ituani also has a mobile setup where it can conduct workshops in any location such as on Mati. Ituani has outreach programs in SANMA, MALAMPA and TORBA. It aims to extend its services to PENAMA, SHEFA and TAFEA
